Sing a Song of Cycling
September 20th, 2012 | Posted by in ameliaToday, I wanted to go for a proper long-ish cycle around Richmond Park, but I primarily got confused by our bike pump, which looks like it’s for a Schrader valve BUT it turns out (after I went to the Bike Shop to inquire about buying one for a Presta valve) you can ‘swap the orientation’ of the pump bit, so it actually fits either valve. (Here is a picture of the two valves.) I gleefully began to pump away on my very flat tire, only to realise that it has a slow puncture, and needs a new inner tire. Having left my bank card somewhere that no-one can find it, I don’t have any access to money, so no cycling for me until all of this gets sorted out.
One of my 26 before 26 is to cycle five miles a week, so I’ll have to make this up the week after. (In case you were wondering, this cycling app by Strava is what I use to log my rides. It’s ridiculously easy to use, it’s free, and you can compete against anyone else with the app, at any time, because it ranks you against other users who have cycled the same segments!)
In the meantime, here are some pleasant songs about bicycles that I can’t stop singing.
SUE DENIM – Bicycle from G-whiz! on Vimeo.
Sue Denim! Like out of Robots in Disguise! I kept singing this while I was cycling with my Mum last week, and I think she thought that I had finally lost it. It’s really catchy. Really catchy.
Chemical Brothers ‘Velodrome’ – London 2012 from Crystal CG on Vimeo.
I didn’t watch the Olympics, so I’m not bored of this one yet. And it’s great for listening to if you want to go FAST. Or for when you want to pretend that you’re going fast.
Uh, Bicycle Race by Queen, because, obviously.
The Pushbike song by Mungo Jerry and/or The Mixtures was a suggestion by my step-dad, who then sang it all around the house, with me singing Bicycle by Sue Denim in accompaniment.
For all that hipster girls are mad for cycling, I can’t find many of them singing about it. I thought Au Revoir Simone had something, but I can’t find anything. Do you know any cycling songs?
